WebQuest Task Page

Your Mission Should You Choose to Accept It.

The purpose of this WebQuest is twofold. The first purpose is obviously to teach you more about the American presidency and those who have served in the office. Just as important is the refining of your personal definition of greatness. You will not be given qualities that define greatness. It is up to you and your group to examine presidential qualities and then establish and defend them as great

The Task List

This exercise consists of six tasks

  1. Initial Research: Watch the You Tube video on the next page and read the transcript from a PBS Discussion on Presidential greatness.
  2. Defining the Terms: Download the presidential matrix PDF file and from your reading, list and define 5 qualities that make a president great.
  3. Specific Group Research: Link to your group's discussion page. List and research your group's particular presidents
  4. Rate the Presidents: Given your predetermined qualities, grade each president on your matrix from 1 to 5 being sure to include why you've chosen this grade.
  5. Do the Math: Average the grades of your presidents to determine who is the greatest of your particular era. The other two groups will be given your determination and your group will be given theirs.
  6. Hold an Election: The next day one person from each group will present their candidate and then in true democratic fashion, an election will be held to determine the greatest president of the 20th century.

The Reward

Each member of the group representing the winning president will receive 5 extra points. The person presenting will receive 8 extra points. In the event that all three groups tie (everyone voting for their own candidate) no extra points will be rewarded.
