The American Century

The 100 years between 1900 and 2000 has often been referred to as the American Century. There can be no argument that, during the 20th century, the United States transitioned from an expanding agrarian society to a world superpower. In 100 years, the relatively young nation went from bridging the Atlantic and Pacific oceans to putting a man on the moon. In between, we overcame the Great Depression and stopped dictators in their tracks. It is quite a remarkable record.

A Great Responsibility

Obviously for a nation to emerge in such a short period of time, it must have an incredible national will to succeed. Such a will requires a firm hand on the wheel, guiding the nation forward. The Presidency of the United States is that firm hand. Throughout our history, regardless of our personal disagreements, United States citizens gather together every four years to choose our leader. What is truly wonderful about this process is that it stems directly from the people of the country, and those people have chosen some amazing men to represent them.

The Question Before Us

A number of great men have been chosen, but who is the greatest. This is the question you will answer and defend with this exercise. Who was the greatest president of the 20th century?
