Purpose

This simulation has been designed to allow users to practice high current testing on ABB K-Line circuit breakers using the Multi-Amp CB8130 High Current Test Set. The simulation should be used in conjunction with Millstone Power Station Procedure MP 3782CA.

CB 8130 Controls

The simulation allows the user to utilize the test set in either the pulse or maintain mode. Pulse duration may be changed using the menu as would be done with the actual test set. The scale buttons allow the user to select the appropriate current scale to be used when testing the breaker. The memory and continuous function keys are also fully functional. The test set handwheel is adjusted using the buttons below the handwheel. The range handle is also adjusted using the plus/minus buttons below it.

Circuit Breaker Controls

The circuit breaker can only be charged electrically using the control box to the right of the multi-meter. The breaker can be opened and closed electrically using the control box or can be opened and closed manually using the appropriate buttons on the breaker. (Note: The Close Button on the breaker is only used when the breaker is in the test position and therefore is not applicable during this simulation.) The trip box for the circuit breaker is an amalgam of the SS3 and SS4 trip boxes. When an instantaneous trip is selected the Short time trip is eliminated and vice versa. Setpoint Taps may be adjusted by clicking on the appropriate tap location. All appropriate wires are assumed to be landed on the trip box and lifting one of these wires will result in the wire and the lug being displayed below the appropriate terminal. When the circuit breaker trips on an overcurrent condition, the reset button will protrude and must be reset in order for the circuit breaker to re-close. The circuit breaker secondary disconnects are located in the lower right hand corner of the simulation. The buttons in the upper right hand corner allow the user to select which phase will undergo testing.

Power Supply Controls

The simulation provides a power supply should the need arise to apply external power to the circuit breaker trip box via the breaker secondary disconnects. The power supply is equipped with an on/off switch and the magnitude of the output is adjusted using the buttons below the dial.

Multi-Meter Controls

The simulation provides a multi-meter for use during testing. The multi-meter scale is selected using the buttons located on the multi-meter.

Lifting and Landing Test Leads and Wires

During the simulation, it will be necessary to land and lift test leads and wires. In order to accomplish this, the user must use the panel located directly above the circuit breaker secondary disconnects. For example should the user wish to connect the multi-meter to terminals 9 and 10 on the trip box to monitor for the breaker long time pickup setting, they would do the following.

To remove the meter leads, click on the " Lift Lead " button then click Terminals 9 and 10 and the meter connections. This will return these items to their original state.
