Learner Description

This activity was written as a walking tour for high school students and tourists visiting the Southeastern Connecticut area. It introduces students to the history in their own back yard while exposing them to the thriving art community in New London.

Instructions:

In this activity, you will tour historic Downtown New London visiting historical sites in your own backyard, but, as we all know, the present of today will be the history of tomorrow. So, while you tour the historic, you will search for murals that were painted last year by area artists

This activity has 5 parts.

  1. First, watch the You Tube Video of New London Murals. Pay special attention to the various landmarks in the video, they will help you find the murals.
  2. Next, visit the New London Landmarks website and take the blue walking tour. While you are taking the tour, search for the murals that you have seen in the video. Take a picture of yourself in front of the mural.
  3. Then open up Google Maps and plot the location of the mural on your own personal walking tour.
  4. After you have completed the walking tour, click the Hygenic Logo to find a brouchure which contains the locations of all the murals in New London. How many did you miss?
  5. Lastly, post the picture of yourself in front of your favorite mural include the name of the artist and why this mural is your favorite.
